The ABC Group
Ownership

The ABC Group is owned by the Ah-Chuen family, a well-known and
respected family in the Mauritian business community originating
from Mei Chu, of the Guangdong province in China.

The late Sir Moilin Jean Ah-Chuen started in 1931 its ABC retail
shop thus laying what can be called "the foundation stone" of the
ABC Group of Companies.

In 1949, he became the first chinese
member of the Legislative Council and
served as Minister of Local Government.
For his valuable social contribution he was knighted by
her Excellency Queen Elizabeth II and Pope John Paul II.

The effigy of Sir Jean is found on the present twenty-five
rupees banknote highlighting the predominant role played by him
in the socio-economic and political development of the country.

In fact through his wide connections in the Far East, speaking
the chinese dialects, including Mandarin, Sir Jean Ah-Chuen had been one of the
pioneers who contributed to the successful implementation of the Export Processing Zone
in attracting Hong Kong textile and knitwear industrials. His daughter Mrs Madeleine Lee acted as Mauritian Ambassador in China.
